The Unbelievable 4 Seasons of Emotions Themed Photography!!

Depression is not just a simple mental condition, it impacts lives from the victim to the family and the community. One of the most upsetting results of this mental problem is suicide. How many more lives are we willing to waste just because we care less?

Compassion is what the ailing world need now to combat this infectious and contagious depression. Did you know that in recent studies Depression is discovered to be a viral disease? If this is so, then it can be healed. There is hope if we continue to uphold our humanity. (Read here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4175921/)

Because of the increasing rate of people suffering from depression, I decided to create a concept of a Themed Photography that depicts the impact of this mental condition and how to recover, heal and step forward. Thus birthed the title “Four Seasons of Emotions”.

I believe the collage explained perfectly the idea and the message I wanted to convey to the viewers. Aside from the fact that this concept would be a huge challenge to the make up artist, it gave me a higher responsibility to portray the role I coined in this difficult concept.

As a young stage actress, heavy drama was my forte. I used to win in crying contest in my community because I could actually shed a tear in 10 seconds then.

There were 3 essential shots to summarize each concept, the Headshot, the Portrait Shot and finally the Whole Body Shot and I believe the most difficult one for the photographers to realize would be the Head shot. For one, we were not that close, when I say close it refers to the level of friendship. The aspiring Filipino photographers volunteered to collaborate with me, in order to showcase their talent and appear with me for my guesting in Taiwan National Television. I am forever grateful to them for sharing their skills on Taiwan National Television.

From a Wasted Winter to Striving Spring, as you may have noticed, the adjectives were well thought of. In my mind there must be relevance, consistency to the concept and it focus on the message.

What made Striving Spring hard was the fact that the model in frame couldn’t show too much sadness nor happiness instead an awakening as well as that sense of prudence, being wiser from the devastating experience. That kind of complicated status that might be translated to “I’m struggling but still breathing”.

Aside from the outfit that was also correlated to the concept, the make up was twice harder. The make up artist I worked with was not professional. Fate Laurencio is a self taught make up artist but I was stunned with how she was able to create that kind of look I wanted her to achieve. She was the best Filipino OFW Make up artist for me based on professionalism and attitude to learn.

I am pretty excited now to share the outcome of this concept I created however allow me first to extend your patience on this beautiful introduction for this will give you a lot more understanding about this collaboration that will surely add delight viewing each photographs.

“Serene Summer”

I always put myself into the most unimaginable state of being and for Serene Summer I went beyond what is expected in a beautiful photo. In my mind I believe that “If you can be photogenic with eyes closed, then you are indeed a model”. It is true that our eyes give the soul to a 2 dimensional picture but there is something in “closed eyes shot” that really excites me.

I love closing my eyes on my casual snaps with my family so I wanted to feel that kind of peace, comfort and relaxed in Serene Summer. I want people to see how powerful a picture is even the eyes are closed and I believe we did and amazing job for this concept.

“Fierce Fall”

“A strong woman knows she has strength enough for the journey, but a woman of strength knows it is in the journey where she will become strong.”

Bald. That’s it. Nothing else could ever express a strong woman in a frame than being bald.

You see, a woman’s hair is her crowning glory. Every woman looks lovely and nice with a long hair but not everyone can carry a bald head. It takes a lot of courage to let go of the hair that gives perfection to the already special and beautiful human being, a woman.

Man is curious eternally towards a woman because she possesses all the necessary and unnecessary curves in the body that makes the gender differences much more interesting.

The Photographer

Gerald Desamparado is a Filipino Migrant Worker in Taiwan that has excellent skills in photography and photo editing. He was gracious enough to share his talent to SET Television for FREE. Yes! We did this collaboration without any compensation. I provided their food and a small amount for their transportation but that was it.

When I posted about this plan for Photoshoot project, Gerald Desamparado was the first one to offer his passion for photography and willingness to learn without any money involved. He is so talented and he deserved the Tv feature.

He has an apprentice, Melvin who was shy and keen to his work. He created so many stunning shots during the collaboration and I am pretty sure, they both had a great time shooting the extraordinary concepts.

It was indeed a once in a lifetime learning experience for them and for all of us.

The Glam, Hair and Make Up

With all four different looks, it was all flawlessly achieved by Fate Laurencio. She is intelligent and resourceful. The bald look she did in Fierce Fall was savvy. For the glam, I worked with her most specifically on the outfit each concept. I provided the OOTDS and we shared the accessories that matched the look. It was extra fun working with an empowered woman.

Fate is a hardworking OFW as well as an entrepreneur. If you need an inspiration for life, Fate is one strong woman to look up to. She is driven, she is kind and most of all she is willing to learn.
