Fun 3 Days and 2 Nights in Boracay

Fun 3 Days and 2 Nights in Boracay

Why Boracay? Boracay gained popularity in Taiwan for quite a time now so as a Filipina and a Cebuana, I wanted to see what the Taiwanese people had seen during their sweet vacation in the island.

Where is Boracay? Boracay or also known as Bora is a resort island located at the Western Visayas Region of the Philippines. It is under the province of Aklan and under the municipality of Malay.

The island at the northern part of this illustration is Taiwan and the area with the red pin is the island of Boracay.

The name Boracay is attributed to different origins. The island’s indigenous Ati people say that the name of the island came from the Inati words “bora”, meaning bubbles, and “bocay”, meaning white. Another theory suggests that the name is derived from the local word ‘borac,’ which means ‘white cotton,’ referencing the color and texture of Boracay’s white, sugary, and powdery sand.Yet another version dating back to the Spanish era says the name is derived from “sagay”, the word for a shell, and “boray”, the word for seed.

Day 1 From Taiwan to Boracay

Transportation

In 2016, there was no direct flights from Taiwan to Boracay yet so I decided to take the flight from Taiwan to Cebu. During those years only few airlines including Cebu Pacific Airlines offered a direct flight from Taoyuan International Airport to Mactan Cebu International Airport. So from Mactan Cebu International Airport, I transferred to the domestic terminal for the flight from Cebu to Caticlan.

There are two airports in going to Boracay. The Kalibo Airport and the Caticlan Airport. From my personal experience, Kalibo airport is pretty far from the island of Bora. I will discuss this on my last day in Boracay but for now I want to focus your attention to Caticlan Airport or the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport.

During my flight from Cebu Domestic Airport to Caticlan Airport, we were offered tickets for transfer. Yes, it would take a few more rides to reach the destination. For convenience, I purchased a roundtrip ticket transfer so I didn’t have to go to any ticketing office to buy another set for my flight back to Cebu.

For now, you can conveniently book your tickets on Klook. You can use the code HELLOPHILTAI for the available discount or promo. Personally, I had a wonderful time with Southwest Tours transfer service. From the moment I reached Caticlan Airport, it wasn’t difficult to locate their station for the transfer. Their staff will guide you too from the moment you set foot in Caticlan.

The transfer would mean a van or a bus ride from Caticlan Airport to the Cagban port. Then from the port the guest will board a speed boat to Boracay. From the Boracay island, a Southwest tour van will wait for you to give you a ride to your hotel or accommodation. All the transfer experience took less than an hour in my memory and I like the speedboat ride more because it’s pretty relaxing to be surrounded by the blue sea.

Accommodation

For the hotel, I highly recommend the one I stayed at, The Oasis Resort and Spa. Some would think it’s a downside to have a hotel far from the center of the Boracay Island but surprisingly, it is beneficial for me because I had a quiet stay. There’s nothing to worry about the transportation from the hotel to the city. They have a free shuttle bus with frequent trips back and forth. You just have to remember the schedule and the waiting area is at D’ Mall.

I didn’t have a hard time looking for the best, the safest and the most credible offers because Oasis Resort and Spa has the list of almost every fun in Boracay and they assist you too with the most reasonable price.

I was so glad I chose to stay at Oasis Resort and Spa because it made my stay in Boracay nice and easy. The free shuttle was on time and comfortable and the food is authentic Filipino style. I always ask my breakfast to be delivered in my room and I enjoyed the view at my window while eating my happy meal.

Ilig-Iligan Beach

Right after I completed the check in process at the resort and settled down in my room, I decided to go for a stroll at the center of the island but the resort staff suggested Ilig-Iligan Beach and added that it’s a must see for the tourists. So I went to the said Ilig-Iligan Beach since it’s just a few minutes away from the resort and found out that it’s indeed another gem in the island. It’s a beautiful white beach indeed!

Bora Bora

Finally I was able to explore the center of Boracay Island and it was surprisingly fun. First I had dinner at Mang Inasal, then I strolled the mall nearby, I had fun with the street artists, and bought some souvenir items for my family and friends. My personal favorite was the customized Boracay ballpoint pen. People in the island seemed care less about the time because everyone was having the best time of their life.

Day 2 Fun Boracay Activities

As I had mentioned Boracay Island offers so many activities for the tourists and each has its own special experience that surely makes your Boracay trip worthwhile. I thought 3 days and 2 nights in Bora is enough only to find out, the longer the stay, the better. I’m pretty sure I still have a lot to explore in this majestic island.

Helmet Diving

Go on an amazing walk underwater with Boracay Helmet Dive experience. On this trip, you will get to stroll underwater just as you do on land. So if you’ve always wanted to dive but did not feel comfortable wearing a scuba diving suit or are not a confident swimmer, Boracay Helmet Dive will let you explore all the beauty of the marine world without any of the risks. The experience will start with a thrilling speed boat ride to the dive location.

There, you will put on the oxygen pumped helmet and go through a safety briefing. Then, slowly descend into the water and begin your wonderful discovery of Boracay’s stunning dive site. Stand on the sandy sea bed, see coral reefs, colorful exotic fishes and so much more!

PARAW Sailing

This is a local sail boat activity. The boats use two outriggers and two sails. Experience the traditional way of sailing and discover the best sites around the island, perfect for photography – though do note on days with heavier waves the water can kick up a bit (exciting!).

Many believe paraw sailing to be an essential activity to put on their “things to do in Boracay” list.

The paraw is a traditional Philippine outrigger canoe sail boat in the Visayas that transports cargo and passengers. Paraw sailing is a tourist attraction, especially in Boracay and Iloilo, where the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival is held annually since 1973.

Regular daytime sailing starts at 9:00 am and the last departure is at 2:00 pm. Sunset sailing starts at 3:00 pm and the last departure is at 5:00 pm. If you are doing sunset sailing, I personally recommend knowing the exact time the sun will set so you can pick the perfect time for your sunset sailing.

Bora Bora

Enjoying the island on the second day and it was a fun-filled experience. There are so many resorts from Station 1 to 3 and people can do the resort hopping freely and take pictures anywhere you like. There are so many restaurants too so you will never go hungry. I had a blast in Boracay even in a limited time.

Sunset in Boracay

Anyone who had been to Boracay will surely agree that this island has the most beautiful sunset. It’s quite a trend to do Paraw Sailing for the sunset in Bora to capture the natural phenomenon up close. I had my first and last sunset experience on my second day in Boracay and I couldn’t help but admire the beauty in front of me. Such a wonderful creation of God.

Night Life in Bora

I’ve read somewhere that one reason why there are few tourists in the Philippines is because of the lack of night activities like parties or 24-hour bars or lounges. But when I went to Boracay, I was quite impressed with the night vibe. There was music, food, and my favorite the buy-one-take-one beer buckets! You can stroll around and take some souvenir photos with the street artists or shop until you drop at the mall nearby. I think the nightlife in Boracay was quite lively!

Day 3 Boracay to Cebu

Goodbye Boracay and Oasis Resort and Spa

I had a wonderful time in Boracay no matter how short my vacation was. I had a great time and met amazing people. Do I recommend Boracay to you? Of course! Although, I would say this place is best for adults. The environment is suitable for honeymoon or a get together with friends but not with the kids.

Kalibo Airport

The flight from Caticlan to Cebu was cancelled so I was able to experience the long ride from Boracay island to Kalibo airport. While waiting for the new flight schedule, I was able to stroll the nearby market and taste the local food at Kalibo Aklan.

See you again soon Fun Boracay!
