Jun (軍) Jian (艦) Yan (岩) Qin (親) Shan (山) Bu (步) Dao(道) or 軍艦岩親山步道 or in Google translation is called “Warship Rock Mountain Trail” while on Google Map it is called the “Ship-shaped rock with sweeping views”. It is located in Beitou District, Taipei City and the Hiking Trail starts at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.
Jun Jian Yan is amongst the EASY HIKING TRAILS in Taipei along with Zhishan Yan, Xiangshan and several others more. It is called the basic hiking trail in Taiwan because of the convenience from the starting point up to the punch stamp station or the trail end point.
If you read the reviews on google map and several other websites featuring Jun Jian Yan, you would see feedbacks like it is a difficult walk or one might have an uncomfortable hike to the top however based on my personal experience, it was quite an enjoyable hike, with spacious stairs and a clear path to the Ship shaped rock. It is indeed not that difficult the fact that two remote controlled 4×4 toy cars were able to reach the rock!
How to reach Jun Jian Yan Warship Rock Mountain Trail?
It is actually up to the hiker to choose which trail they wish to go. There is a trail connecting from Beitou MRT Station or Qiyan and Qilian Station. These are the farther trails to Jun Jian Yan. Now, if you are a basic hiker like me, it would be best to start at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University where the starting point is situated.
You have to ride the MRT and stop at Shipai Station. Then walk to the General Market and ride bus 559. You will alight at the foot of the mountain inside the university and then it would just take a few steps towards the starting point of Jun Jian Yan trail.
It is pretty amazing how Taiwan was able to make hiking more enjoyable by designing beautiful structures and trail labels and paths to make your trip enjoyable and instagram-able! You will also track how far you have come by the legends situated on designated stops.
Jun Jian Yan Warship Rock Mountain Trail will surely bring you the kind of relaxation you deserve and besides the greengasm, the wide horizon is absolitely great for your eyeshight!
