One of the most common places for many travelers to converge is Taipei Train Station. If you go to the Exits or Gates, you’ll see so many travel buses and queues for respective tours. So are you ready to discover North Coast in Taiwan?

2 Crown Coast Keelung Lighthouse

Keelung Lighthouse sits on a finger of land known as Wanrenduibi—“Pile of 10,000 People.” It acquired this memorable epithet due to the wave-cut abrasion landscape formed by pedestal rocks, which from a distance look like a crowd of people’s heads on the rocky, intertidal flat. Although similar landscapes can still be found at Heping Island and Yeh Liu, it had largely disappeared from here. Nonetheless, the name has stuck. Lighthouses have long had a unique hold on the human imagination. They are neither of the sea nor of the land. They exist in a liminal zone on the border between the elements, between the known world of houses, streets and hills and the dark, unknowable depths of the ocean.

On the one hand, they are expressions of man’s noblest ideals: structures whose sole purposes are to save lives, to reassure the lost, and to let societies prosper. On the other, they are places of exile—barren, lonely prisons that have driven some of the men who keep them alight to murder and madness.

In the popular imagination, they seem to embody both the highest and lowest our species can aspire to: the brightest light and the deepest darkness.

As a port city with its back to the mountains, Keelung has always looks seaward to seek it’s fortunes, prepare for the future, and define its identity. Lighthouses may be a symbol universally understood, but to places like Keelung they are uniquely able to tell the story of the place its people.

Built by Japanese in 1899 and lit in 1900, the cylindrical white-brick beacon is the oldest lighthouse in the city. Originally a kerosene lamp, it was converted to acetylene in 1913 then electrified in 1932. Like every lighthouse in the world, Keelung’s has its own unique “characteristic” that allows sailors to recognise it even the darkest night: Two flashes of white light every seven seconds.

3 Crown Coast Yehliu Geopark

Yehliu Geo-park features all sorts of strange-looking rocks. It is part of Datun Mountain that stretches out to the sea. Weathering, marine erosion, and crustal movement together created the world-renowned scenery of mushroom rocks, sea caves, tofu rocks, candle rocks, and giant’s kettles. Among all, Queen’s Head is the most representative landmark and check-in attraction in Yehliu. Cute Princess, a rock that resembles a girl with a pony tail, is considered the successor of Queen’s Head. (Read more here: https://newtaipei.travel/en/attractions/detail/111495 )

Before entering the cape area, you will see duplicates of Queen’s Head and Cute Princess, as well as colorful cartoon rock figures. This place is shaded by trees and not too close to the rock area and the sea, making it a perfect place for children to take a break, or to take photos.

The coastal cape section is divided into three areas: The first area features diverse, strangely-shaped mushroom rocks and candle rocks. Here, you can see the formation process of mushroom rocks. Mushroom rocks of different sizes are presented here, creating a lovely and healing scene. The most popular spots in Yehliu: Queen’s Head, Dragon’s Head Rock, and Gorilla Rock, are located in the second area.

This area is close to the sea, where you can find Fairy’s Shoe and Peanut Rock. When coming to Yehliu, don’t forget to look for these attractions. The third area is the wave-cut platform, featuring 24 Filial- Piety Hill and Pearl Rock. This place is also an important ecological conservation area of Yehliu Geo-park. When coming to Yehliu, don’t forget to look for these attractions.

Fugui Cape is the northernmost cape of Taiwan. The Northeast Monsoon in the winter has helped the formation of ventifacts. Apart from watching its unique landform, visitors can also walk along the easy coastal trail and observe the coastal plants, wind-sculpted trees and winding coast lined with coral reefs along the way. You can also enjoy the beautiful cape at the observation deck or visit the unique octagonal lighthouse. Every April and May is the time to see Taiwan’s native lilies and the special Laomei Green Reef.

Fugui Cape Lighthouse, situated at the end of the cape, is the northernmost lighthouse in Taiwan. When summer comes, summer-only beautiful scenes will be unveiled. When the sun sets, the afterglow shines on the lighthouse, creating a beautiful scene much sought after by photography enthusiasts. When night falls, the starry sky also makes the place worth visiting.

Ventifacts, formed by wind-driven sand, are only seen in areas with strong wind, fine sand, and hard rocks. The Fugui Cape has the highest number of ventifacts in Taiwan. Most of the ventifacts have four facets; however, due to changes in wind direction and rock positions, there are different types of ventifacts here.

6 Crown Coast Bike Tour Baisha Bay – The Starting Point

Baisha Bay (Baishawan)—which translates as “White Sand Bay”—is one of the better known beaches along the coast. The bay is located between Linshanbi to the south and Fugui Cape to the north. These rocky promontories are the result of volcanic activity from the Datun Range that sent lava flowing directly into the sea some 800,000 years ago. The different minerals present in the rock have created a mottled rock surface. The interesting features of the rocky waterfronts are the primitive fish traps made from heaped landsite and broken coral, where fish are stranded by the retreating tide. These fish traps can be seen along the coast between Baisha Bay (Baishawan) and Fugui Cape.

7 Crown Coast Bike Tour Qing Shui Bay – The Final Destination

Clear Water Bay (Chinese: 清水灣; Jyutpingcing1 seoi2 waan1) is a bay on the eastern shore of Clear Water Bay Peninsula of Hong Kong, located within Clear Water Bay Country Park.[1] There are two beaches at Clear Water Bay: “Clear Water Bay First Beach[2] and “Clear Water Bay Second Beach”.[3] The name is also used to describe the area around the bay on the peninsula.

During the summer, both beaches have life guards on duty. Changing rooms, lockers, shower facilities, toilets and rafts are available at both beaches. A BBQ area can only be found on the first beach, but there is a kiosk selling refreshment on the second beach.[4]

There is an unavoidable flight of stairs of about 100 steps for both beaches, so strollers and wheelchairs cannot be used to access the beaches.

Both beaches are protected by shark nets after three fatal shark attacks occurred in 1995. On 13 June 1995, a 49-year-old woman Wong Kui-Yong (王桂容) had her left forearm and left leg bitten off by a shark at Clear Water Bay 1st beach. She died of her injuries.[5]
