Since Taiwan became an elderly society in 2018, the proportion of people over 65 years old has continued to increase, and it is expected to become a super-aged society in 2025. At 8 o’clock in the morning we were all set to leave to the next stop and the bus was so spacious and comfy. It’s best for kids, adults and the elderlies for sure. A. From Taipei via Hsuehshan Tunnel – National Freeway No.5 – Realtime traffic information

By train, use the North-link line
(A) Gui-shan station is the nearest train station to the farm. Only ordinary train stops at Gui-shan station. Walking from the Gui-shan station to the farm takes about 30 minutes, there is no scheduled taxi in front of the station, please call for a taxi service if needed. There are 2 taxi services run in the town:
1. Toucheng taxi service (03) 9771300；2. Ba-da taxi service (03) 977 1080
Farm does offer pick service during Monday to Friday, please book your pick up in advance. (There is a pick-up car from the train station on weekdays, please reserve beforehand).
(B) The closest express stop to the farm is Toucheng train station, scheduled taxis is available in front of Toucheng train station, taxi fare is based on meter, it is about $280~$350/one way to the farm.

Perhaps I couldn’t understand everything that he said but I was able to grasp the real meaning of wine tasting and that is to appreciate the enormous time and effort to make a fine wine.
After the wine tasting inside the beautiful hall of Zhong Fu Winery, we were lead to their mini souvenir shop where one can buy the wines we had. My Golden Years team truly had a shopping spree with the wines.

I was pretty excited to see the place and most especially the animals at Hualien Bay View Restaurant but our time didn’t permit because we arrived a little late. It was already dark outside so the animals were kept safe. Despite not seeing the friendly animal-hood, I was so delighted with the food.
Every plate served was so delicious. My personal favorite was the crab soup. Being told that this restaurant has no menu, I can only tell you how good our food was. Yum!

Like everyone else, I was super duper excited for the DIY Jade Necklace. Apart from the idea of knowing how it is done, as someone living in Tamsui, I get to see Jade sold anywhere and it’s quite pricey which would mean one thing, this stone is precious most especially to the Taiwanese people.
How to make your own Jade Necklace?
Step 1 Choose your stone and design. The owner considered the time it would take for the guests to mold one’s design so they have pre-shaped ones in different stones and colors for the participants to choose from.

Step 2 Soften the edges and the surface. After choosing the design and the stone or the jade kind, the guest will be taught how to soften the stone with this wheel file. It is completely safe. You wouldn’t worry if you accidentally touched the file. It’s just a little rough and ironically quite gentle to the skin. In this step, the guest should rub the stone slowly and surely so that you will not file too much. The shape might be ruined with too much filing or rubbing. Then the mentor will help refine the shape.

Step 3 Drilling a hole with a water and a sand. A running water machine with a fixed diameter is the next step. This time, the staff will assist the guest to make sure the hole is properly drilled.

Step 6 Packaging. After all the molding process, the guests will choose the chain. There were two options for us. One can have a necklace chain or key chain. Almost everyone chose the necklace chain. I also had the necklace for my daughter. Then the owner helped with the positioning and knotting the threads and then the product is ready to use.

I think what makes it more exciting to visit Hualien is the opportunity to try aboriginal food and to learn a bit of their culture. One thing I admire the most in Taiwan is the strong campaign of the government to support all the ethnic groups in Taiwan islandwide. Each tribe promotes their unique way of life to the communities and domestic tourism patronizes them.
I had my first every immersion with the aborigines in Taiwan in Hualien and Taitung last August this year (2023) and I’ve noticed something pretty common to each tribe. They prepare food not just for eating but for the beautiful story behind every dish. I didn’t even know I ate a bat until I started to write on my website to share about my experience.

8. Taroko National Park
Taroko National Park. The only Marble National Park in the world. It is famous for its majestic and almost vertical marble canyon landscape, which amazes tourists everywhere.
