The current Tamsui Church building was built by Japan. It was then renovated in 1932 due to deterioration and opened by the son of George Leslie Mackay on 28 November 1933. The building was again renovated in 1986.
The Tamsui church chapel is a Gothic building, and the clock tower is one of its features. This clock has existed since the completion of the “White Chapel” in 1915. There is no earlier information, only the clock face is cast with “YORK” and “No. 30” et al. Made in the USA.
The sound of this bell is loud and round, and it can be heard even miles away from the coast. The famous Taiwanese ballad “Twilight Song of Tamsui” mentions that “the church bell rings to the sea with an empty heart”.
During World War II, this clock was requisitioned by the Japanese government as a siren for the “Street Workplace”, and it was erected on the roof of the “Daguanlou” (Red Building). It burst and lost its sound when it was bombed in an air raid, and finally dedicated itself to the residents of Tamsui. The bell was sent back to the church after the war. In 1985, it was installed at the back of the chapel to commemorate it, named “Gospel Bell”.
The church is accessible within walking distance north west of Tamsui Station of Taipei Metro.

4. Golden Waterfall Ruifang
Address: 224 Jinshui Highway, Ruifang District, New Taipei City 10 Awesome Places to Go in Taiwan
“Golden Waterfall” is located near the Gold Ecological Park (黃金博物園區) in Jinguashi. Although real gold flowing from these falls would be too good to be true, the water is certainly a beautiful gold color as a result of the combination of regular rainfall in this mining area and the abundance of heavy metal elements deposited in the riverbed.
The cascade of gold flowing down the hillside contrasts to the luminous green grass at its head. Indeed, the natural beauty of this place makes it a favorite for photography among newly-weds. But it’s not just star-struck lovers who will fall for this place, we guarantee impressive photographs to everyone who makes a visit.
Add to the color of your day with a visit to Yin Yang Sea (陰陽海) in the nearby Changren community (長仁社區). The name of this site refers to the two opposing principles of light and dark in Chinese philosophy, and refers to the striking contrast in the colors of the cove.
The water may be beautiful but its toxicity makes it unsafe even for touching.

Lanyang Museum Emblem
The name Yilan is derived from the word “Kavalan.” The Kavalan people are an aboriginal tribe that has lived in the plains for thousands of years. The Kavalan people co-exist with many groups in this area. This cultural exchange has become the basis for our multicultural traditions. The museum chose our emblem after much careful discussion with the local residents. We chose a woodcarving that best represents traditional Kavalan culture in Yilan. The emblem is meant to reflect the multifaceted relationship that exists between the museum, nature, and local residents.
