20 Captivating Tourist Attractions in Taiwan

Almost every major city has a beautiful river flowing through it, and Kaohsiung is no exception. The Love River winds through the city, offering stunning views at sunrise and sunset. Originally known as the Dagou River during the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed the Takao River under Japanese rule and later became known as the Kaohsiung Canal.

Over time, the riverbanks were transformed into scenic parks, enhanced with lush greenery and decorative iron-chained pillars. As the area became a popular spot for couples, the river earned its romantic name—Love River.
Today, the riverbanks feature expansive parks and green spaces, along with a long cycling path. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the walkways, enjoying the peaceful scenery and the soft breeze.

At night, the Love River comes alive with shimmering lights reflecting on the water. Visitors can take boat rides along the east and west coasts to soak in the romantic atmosphere. Afterwards, they can unwind at riverside cafés, such as River Mambo or Golden Love River, where they can sip aromatic coffee, listen to music, and experience the laid-back charm of this harbor city.

9. Taipei Zoo

20 Captivating Tourist Attractions in Taiwan

The history of the Taipei Zoo can be traced back over 90 years. In 1914, when Taiwan was still under Japanese sovereignty, a Japanese man surnamed Oe established a private zoological garden in Yuan-shan in the northern suburbs of Taipei City. The Japanese Government in Taiwan purchased the property the following year and transformed it into a public park. Following World War II in 1946, the Taipei Zoo was formally taken over by the Taipei City Government. In 1970, the amusement park adjacent to the zoo was consolidated into a 5.8-hectare park, providing entertainment and education for several generations of children and adults.

10. Baishawan or White Sand Bay

20 Captivating Tourist Attractions in Taiwan

Baisha Bay (Baishawan)—which translates as “White Sand Bay”—is one of the better known beaches along the coast. The bay is located between Linshanbi to the south and Fugui Cape to the north. These rocky promontories are the result of volcanic activity from the Datun Range that sent lava flowing directly into the sea some 800,000 years ago. The different minerals present in the rock have created a mottled rock surface.

The interesting features of the rocky waterfronts are the primitive fish traps made from heaped landsite and broken coral, where fish are stranded by the retreating tide. These fish traps can be seen along the coast between Baisha Bay (Baishawan) and Fugui Cape.

The Dakeng Creek Sansheng Trail, located between Xinzhuangzi Village and Hengshan Village in Sanzhi District, New Taipei City, is a riverside trail created by the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Bureau of Water Resources following the renovation of Dakeng Creek.

The trail’s most striking features are the Hikanzakura, Yaezakura, and Yoshino cherry trees lining the path. The over 300 Yoshino cherry trees, in particular, bloom in March each year. The vibrant pink blossoms complement the clear stream, creating a rare and beautiful natural scene.

14. Social Place Miramar Taipei

20 Captivating Tourist Attractions in Taiwan

Eye-catching Modern-day Teahouse with Tasty Dishes
At the beginning of 2018, Shin Yeh introduced “Social Place”, one of the 10 brands of Tang Palace Holdings Co., Ltd. This is a joint venture of the two firms.

A completely new and novel concept, Social Palace re-thinks the traditions of Hong Kong teahouses and Cantonese restaurants .  It combines Hong Kong Dim Sum with Szechuan and Jiansu snack plates.  It uses cooking techniques straight from Canton, boldly blending them into specialties from North and South China.

It goes so far as to offer delicacies with South Asian flavors as well.  Social Place sharply breaks from traditional Chinese cooking methods, and zips across national borders.  The overall emphasis is in two areas:  taste and visual impact, both driven by radical innovation.  Their Hong Kong Dim Sum, with its quaint charm and incredible number of variations, has become something of a food supermodel, as amazed diners snap photos and share online.

This has turned Social Place into a social hotspot.

It’s a new wave restaurant that challenges teahouse tradition, and makes your restaurant dining interesting and active.
