Who is Sonny Simera?
Sonny Simera is a Filipino Artist working in Taiwan and his origin is Davao. Do you know where Davao is?

Sonny Simera is not just an amazing artist from Davao, he has brought his talent in Brunei and Taiwan too. I wanted to meet Sonny because my advocacy as a Filipino media here is to promote more and more inspirational Filipinos in Taiwan and during our interview, we were joined by a Taiwanese Journalist from an online independent media Migrants’ Park and a Taiwanese model for Sonny’s on the spot ARTIST CHALLENGE.

Sonny is an architecture graduate in the Philippines and he started his Artist endeavor in Brunei. After the Brunei adventure, he was contacted by an agent in the Philippines for an employment in Taiwan. Sonny has been living and working in Taiwan for more than 10 years now and he is one of the trusted and respected employees in their company according to his good friend Raymond, a Filipino migrant worker too.
Nakita ko sa kanya (Sonny) na pinagkakatiwalaan siya sa kompanya namin. Kung may mga nais gawin o malaman sa trabaho, siya ang representative namin at isa siyang mabuting kaibigan. – Raymond

Sonny Simera “The Filipino Artist in Taiwan”
Why Taiwan? Sonny lived in Taiwan for quite a long time now not only because he enjoyed being the artist in the company but because he also love Taiwan. He appreciates the people and the place. Although, he is a little bit disappointed with the job description in his contract, but he feels how the company values his work.
Sonny is employed as a Factory Worker in Taiwan and this has been his contract for the third time. He works in the factory focusing on the art department. He does the decorations, paintings and so many other relevant work that requires his art skills.
Sonny is hoping that Taiwan will have an easier way to apply for the Artist Visa because his contract will end soon and he wanted to venture on a new journey in Taiwan. He saw many street artists in the country and for him, if given an Artist Visa, he can show the community his love for art.
Sonny Simera is the artist on call in his company. He is asked to decorate designated places and for him, it’s a happy thing to be able to work and do his passion. Due to his creative works in the company and social media, more and more people recognize his talent.
He does murals, paintings and sketches for clients. Recently he has started his tattoo sessions with interested clients. He can also build and repair things at home. Sonny can do so many things that I even asked him during our interview if he’s still human.

The Best of the Best by Sonny Simera The Filipino Artist in Taiwan
In Taiwan, it is proper and ethical for any media to appreciate the effort of the guest. The least the media can do for the interviewee is to pay for the venue and the transportation. As an independent Filipino online media in Taiwan, every penny I spent for my voluntary engagements like promoting Filipinos on my platforms, I spend for it from my own pocket.
Sonny Simera didn’t want to accept any compensation but I told him that my financial offer is a symbol of honoring and appreciating his professionalism. I said, I cannot give much but what I can do is to introduce Sonny Simera to Taiwan community and to the global community on my website.
As an architecture student, it meant Sonny Simera’s family belongs to a working class. They can provide for their needs and yet Sonny tried his fate in another country hoping he would be given a break, an opportunity, a chance to show the world his talent. So, I am calling all of you who loves art, keep in touch with Sonny. The details are written on top of this feature article.

This picture was taken after the WTO Sisterhood Tv show filming in Taipei. I love my hair and the whole simple make up look so I decided to ask my Taiwanese Artist friend to do an art for me. She gave me one of the most adorable interpretation of my selfie picture.
The truth expressed by an artwork is not a scientific, historical or philosophical truth, but rather, an experiential or imaginative truth – art makes truth real to the imagination.
Art by Wanci
This artwork is a typical Taiwanese style of interpreting a picture. In Tamsui, you will see so many street artists offering I was so grateful to see the outcome and I am more than grateful to my good friend Wanci for sparing her precious time completing this artwork.
I intended to put a red color on the lips as a symbol of your courage. A strong woman. – Sonny

To be very frank, my husband was tongue tied while looking at Sonny’s artwork. He even asked me what sketch app I used for this illustration but I said, it is the product of Sonny’s passion in Art despite his work schedule.
