Yay do you guys know Ilan is a beautiful place and it’s known to be the garden of Taipei. I went there last year and I really enjoyed the beach it’s so beautiful and I was kind of surfing but I think I should say turfing because I was just with the small waves but then I enjoyed it a lot so you guys should go to Ilan city.

Ludong night market has been open since 1990 and of course it’s the famous night market in the east Taiwan and not only that, this is very accessible because it’s near the Ludong train station. Now take note there are three foods to enjoy in Ludong. One, the lamb soup. Do you guys eat lamb? Do you like lamb? Well I like lamb because it’s very delicious. Every time i go to any restaurant the first thing i would look for is a lamb steak. I, I’m just in love with lamb really so you guys try this because for sure you’re gonna enjoy it.

Next the Sunshin’s scallion pancake or the green onion pancake you know what the best thing here in Taiwan is that almost anywhere and everywhere you’re gonna see a breakfast store now as I said before i really love lamb because of the lamb and the lamb is also so delicious the best thing here in Taiwan is that almost anywhere and everywhere you’re gonna see a breakfast store.

Now, in the breakfast store, you can have a lot of things to choose from, one of which is this green onion pancake. One thing that I am sure of, this one is really mouth-watering and you’re going to satisfy your hunger even for a single pancake. Finally, the heart tapioca. You know what, guys? You know, Taiwanese people are really very creative in terms of food.

So, you see, maybe right now it’s heart tapioca, but next time, maybe you’re going to see a diamond tapioca, right? I hope this pandemic will end soon so you guys can come to Ludong Night Market in Yilan City. Are you guys excited now? Now, let’s have top four.

Liuhe Night Market in Kaohsiung: This top four is very close to my heart because it’s one of my favorite. Yes. Honestly, I’ve been there last year too and I just don’t want to get back here in the northern part of Taiwan. You know why? Because in Kaohsiung, the southern part of Taiwan is warmer and hotter than Danshui.

And you know what I like best in Kaohsiung City? They have a lot of beaches there like the Qijin, right? And Kenting. You should go there. Like, there are so many foreigners. Who would really travel. Just intend to travel from their country to Kaohsiung just to enjoy the beach there. Yeah.

And one of the famous night market in Kaohsiung City is Liuhe Night Market. Wow. And it has been open since 1950. And you know what, guys? It’s so near to the famous Formosa Boulevard Station. You know what a Formosa Boulevard Station is? It’s like a dome. It’s a beautiful dome with beautiful decoration. You’re gonna be in love with this place. I’ve been here for like thrice or four times already but I can’t still stop myself from taking a picture.

It’s so Instagrammable. Like, oh my god. You should grab it really. If you’re into photography, you should come here. Right here. Right now. No, just kidding. But, it’s near the MRT, this Liuhe Night Market in Kaohsiung. The MRT is Meili Dao Station. So that’s Formosa Boulevard Station.

Now, in Yilan, we have the Ludong, right? That’s east of Taiwan. Kaohsiung is south of Taiwan and the most famous is Liuhe Night Market. Of course, how could I ever forget the food, right? I think you’re waiting for the food. So, first, you gotta grab the papaya milk. Wow, that sounds so nutritious. Number two, barbecue. Of course, I don’t have to expound about the barbecue. Everybody loves barbecue. That’s why my kids are called Baby K and Baby Z. It’s inspired with barbecue. BBQ. No, just kidding.

In the Philippines, BB means baby. But, of course, in food, it’s still barbecue. Now, the third one is seafood porridge. Oh, wow. I kind of missed that. You know, it’s nice to eat porridge early in the morning for breakfast. See? So, that’s nice and easy. We have top five, the Ludong in Yilan. Top four, we have Liuhe in Kaohsiung. Now, let’s move on to the third one. Top three.

For top three night market, you know, I really wonder why all of my friends, whether they’re Filipinos or from other nationalities, I really wonder why this is very famous to them. Like, all of them goes to this night market. I’m really confused. Why? Why do they love this place so much? And, you know, the funny thing is they came here first before I did.

Like, because many of them went there, so I decided to go there. This is the Raohe Night Market in Taipei City. What I remember about Raohe Night Market is the famous Wufenpu. Wufenpu is like the fashion area in Taipei City. You can buy a lot of designs, a lot of styles, like, customized to your taste. Your fashion, fashion sense.

When I went to Canada almost three years ago, it’s so funny when Canadians are coming to me and telling me that, you know, I really love Taiwan and I love the fashion in Taiwan. The ladies are wearing really unique fashion. Well, you get to grab it in Wufenpu. And where is that? That’s beside Raohe Night Market. It’s just a walking distance from there.

How to go to Raohe Night Market? It’s near the Shongshan Station. And this Raohe Night Market has been open since 1987. Isn’t that long? When I went there, I am so amazed with the facade because you’re going to see a temple with all those red lanterns. There’s a big reason why people come to this place, to Raohe Night Market, because of that view.

You know, it’s so Chinese. I’m sorry for that word, but you can see the Chinese culture there. And it’s so beautiful, really. Well, of course, travelers like taking pictures, right? Who would not? Well, I love taking pictures, too. And I think you’re going to enjoy clicking your shutter when you go to Raohe Night Market because it’s really unique from all the rest of the night market.

It’s… It has this Chinese culture, Chinese influence. And you’ll see a lot of lanterns there with the beautiful, let’s say, combination of the street and the temple and the lanterns. Just a unique sight for you to see. So come to Raohe. And because it’s so famous, Hugh Jackman even ate the stinky tofu in Raohe Night Market.

I think you guys know Hugh Jackman, right? He’s just the X-Man. And he’s really one of the superheroes in America. So if Hugh Jackman came here in Raohe Night Market, you should, too. Yeah, he ate the stinky tofu. Wow. Isn’t he brave? Stinky. Because it’s practically stinky tofu. I think I mentioned that one, too. In my first episode. Now, what are the famous food to grab in Raohe Night Market? Of course, we have the pepper cake. Or they call it the Hu Jiao Ping.

And don’t just say it’s a pepper cake because it has been recommended by Michelin for two years. See? It has Michelin recommendation. Now, in Taiwan, if you have that Michelin recommendation, that means it’s really excellent. More than excellent. That’s why I love it. Aside from the yummy stinky tofu, which Hugh Jackman didn’t really contain himself from eating, and the beautiful lanterns, it’s also near the Rainbow Bridge. Yeah, it’s the attraction there.

That’s why I told you it’s so Instagramable. I always say Instagramable because I’m an Instagramer. I post on Instagram because I satisfy on the view of beautiful picture. Really, I love that. So, you better go to Raohe Night Market. Now, let the drums go rolling. Because we’re going to our top two. And where is that?

Our top two night market is in Taichung City. Wow. You know why it is called Taichung? Because it’s the heart of Taiwan. It’s at the middle. Zhong is middle. And I love this place. You call it the Fengjia Night Market. And this Fengjia Night Market is 58 years old. Wow. My gosh, I’m like 38. It’s like 20 years older than I do.

And it has been open since 1963. It’s such a huge place. My gosh. Believe me. I’ve been there several times. Countless times. And it’s so tiring to walk but enjoyable. You’re going to have a lot of street food over there. And it’s near or around the Fengjia University. And not only that. You know, have you noticed many of these night markets are really accessible because it’s near the MRT. Just like this Fengjia Night Market. It is in Taichung MRT. Which is called the Wenxin Yinghua Station.

When we talk about beautiful restaurants or tasty restaurants in Fengjia, you should grab the Ji Zhi Xiao Niao. It’s a Japanese-style resto, barbecue and beer. You can Google it. And just try Japanese-style resto, barbecue and beer. Here in Fengjia Night Market.

Now, get your pen because I’m going to start the food you should grab in Fengjia Night Market.

Number 1. The Minglun Dan Bing or Minglun Pancake. Well, we really love pancakes here.

Number 2. Yishen Chou Tofu or the Yishen Stinky Tofu.

Number 3. We have the Ri Chuan Zhang Yu Xiao Wan Zi Or the Squid Ball.

Number 4. We have the Tian Shi Ji Pai or the Angel Chicken. It’s so thick and so flavorful. So I think I’m going to enjoy it too. Well, I think I’ve tried it. So you should try it.

Number 5. The Ji Guang Shang Shang Ji or the Chicken Branch. Well, I don’t know what this chicken branch is. But I think it’s really famous in Fengjia Taichung City.

What I can remember the most in Fengjia is the beautiful and unique items they sell on the street. It’s where I bought my wall clock and it’s a Vespa motorcycle. Is that correct? And it’s red. It’s painted. I really like it. There are a lot of unique items there. What’s the beautiful with Night Market is that you’re going to see different items. Or products. So, they don’t compete with each other. Because every store or stall is worth strolling.

Like here they sell fruits the next stall they’re gonna sell stinky tofu. And the next stall would be a lot of dresses, a lot of shirts, male or female bags, practically you have a whole street to choose from. That’s why I said in the first episode, if you have a thick pocket there, you can go to the night market everyday. You can like get whatever you like only in the night market. You don’t have to go to the department store for that.

Ok now. I think I’ve talked too much. And everyone’s excited to know the top one night market in Taiwan. Wow! Yay! The top one night market in Taiwan is, Shilin Night Market. Yay! That’s still in Taipei City. Shilin night market is 112 years old. Wow! Imagine that!

And it has been open since 1909 around the Matzu temple. You should go to that temple too because it’s where you’re gonna grab the best mishua. And not only that, if you’re a good photographer, you’re gonna grab a very special photo, candid photo there. Because a lot of people would go inside and eat their mishua.

Have I tried it? Yes of course I’ve tried it because Shilin night market is apparently my favorite go to place on a weekend. Okidoki. So how can we go to Shilin Night Market? Is it convenient? Is it accessible? Definitely! You go to Taipei MRT, the red line, and your stop is at Jiantan Station and viola and you’re gonna enter the whole place and it’s a huge, really huge night market.

What are the food that you should grab in Shilin Night Market?

Number one. The gigantic deep fried chicken. It’s gigantic because the size is even bigger than the normal human face. You see that. lt’s good for you and it’s really oh, mouthwatering.

Now next, Number 2. The sausage. We have Taiwanese sausage here. And this sausage in Shilin is so special because it’s almost as long as your arm. Like, can you imagine a very long sausage? Like a jumbo hotdog would mean small compared to this sausage. So you should grab it.

Now Number three. A pork rib stew with medicinal herbs. Now in Taiwan, they’re pretty much meticulous with health. They like to boost health and wellness so they prefer the natural way. It’s very accessible anywhere. Where you can like eat really nutritious food. So you should grab this because aside from the medicinal herbs I’m sure you’re gonna enjoy the pork rib stew.

Now next, do you guys eat duck? Because Rob Schneider from the famous movie ” The Deuche Bigalaw or the Male gigolo” and also from the “Hot chic” came to Taiwan with his wife in 2011 and they took, they grabbed and enjoyed the Dongshan Yatou or the Dongshan Duck head. Wow! Isn’t that awesome?

Are you guys drooling now? I’m hungry. Yeah it’s almost midnight so I think I can’t eat anymore but I’m hungry talking about all these food in the night market makes me wanna go there right now. Yeah, it’s still open I guess because it’s still eleven.

Now next, you have to grab, like I’ve said it already, Mishua. What is mishua? It’s a thin kind of noodle. This is just one thing you should try. Well it’s a little bit spicy but you can tell them not to put spice on it like chili on it maybe. So you can still, like, share it with your kids.

Now number 6 is Taiwan style steak. We have this special steak here in Taiwan that we have meat or the steak plus the twirl pasta and then you can choose between pepper sauce or mushroom. And aside from we like to add some broccoli and potatoes, yeah, with the Taiwanese Style steak.

I’m pretty sure you will like it because a lot of foreigners really grab that one when they come here even my friends. They would definitely grab a Taiwanese Style steak. When they have the chance to come back here. In many night markets most of them, like in Shilin, they have this massage, Remember what I told you? you can relax in a night market? You can go there. You can have a relaxing massage. So good and very affordable. Perhaps for 200 or 300 NT you can have a good massage already.

And then next the Lottery. Many night markets, especially Shilin, has the biggest lottery store so you see a lot of people during the Chinese New Year scratching over there or like bowing their heads that means they’re scratching their lottery cards.

Next, Shilin Night market also have this secondhand shop. Well, Selling secondhand goods or a garage sale, somehow. So I saw a lot of foreigners going in there to check those stuffs too. And not all the products are old. You see those even with tags. And maybe the owners didn’t like it and sell it in a low low low price.

And then of course you’ll gonna enjoy the pet store in Shilin Night market. Do you like pets? Well, what’s your favorite pet? Cat? A dog? In Taiwan, you know what’s famous here? Like people are having a porcupine pet. It’s pretty interesting huh? I even had a chance of petting it but then it was angry to me because I had perfume on me. And they don’t like perfume.

Well, they have the exotic food in Shilin. And that’s the snake food. Well it’s up to you if you wanna try it because I will never ever ever try it. But it’s up to you. They said it’s good for the male. So you just have to try it. If you’re a curious person like Alice in the wonderland and then you can try it.

The favorite part of couples in the night market especially in Shilin Night Market are the games. There is an array of games over there in Shilin night market. There’s this shooting game, the arrow game , the dart game, the balloon game, the bottle game and so many others. It’s even good for the kids or the children. So it’s like a family goal and a friendship goal all in one.

What I like there the most is the fishing, fishing game because you can grab a lot of fish and it will take time of your kids so they’ll gonna enjoy it. And for us, for the grown ups, there’s also the shrimp. Where you can grab a shrimp, as many as you can, and then they will cook it for you. Yeah, that’s nice right? You can like enjoy, they earn and you can eat too. Pretty amazing.

And hey hey hey, before I finally teach you how to haggle in the night market, let me just mention that in taiwan it is so popular to have a themed restaurant. What is a themed restaurant? For instance, in Shilin night market they have this Toilet Restaurant. When you say toilet, it’s literally toilet. Everything you see is toilet. The food is even like that thing you flush in the toilet. I’ve been there. I really didn’t have a plan but it was my daughter’s birthday so I didn’t have a choice. She wanted to go there so we went there. And I ended up hungry.

Because I have a very active imagination and everytime I look at my food, I just can’t. That’s it. I just can’t. So if you’re curious enought, you come to Shilin Night market and then you’ll know why it’s top one in Taiwan. There are so many night markets in Taiwan especially in Taipei. These top 5 I’m telling where many people or tourists are really coming in and visiting because there are a lot things to choose from and it’s near the tourist spots. So you will have an enjoyment at daytime and also at night time. Okidoki.

And now for the climax, and for the finale of this episode 5, for top 5 night markets, How to haggle in a night market. Most of the time normal people would say, How much is this? Or if you see the price, let’s say 500, normally we would say, can I have a discount please? or can I have a cheaper price? Well of course if I am the owner, it would be difficult for me to give you a discount. But because Taiwanese are so friendly, they would say, Ok maybe I’ll give it to you for 480, so that’s 20NT discount right?

Now this is another way of asking a discount and this is Gen’s way. How do I do it? I will say, Excuse me Miss, I saw the price is 500 can you please tell me the lowest price? See in Chinese, you will say, Bu hao yi si, zhe shi wubai guai, Zui di de jiage dou shao ne? What is the lowest price? So they will know that you really are from Taiwan and perhaps you know Taiwan very well that you know the idea of the price and the lowest price.
