Fun 3 Days and 2 Nights in Kaohsiung

Fun 3 Days and 2 Nights in Kaohsiung
I really thank God that the month of April has Taiwan National Holidays that are fixed on the same dates. One of the two holidays celebrated annually is the Children’s Day every 4th day of April and the other one is the National Tomb Sweeping Day every 5th of April. These holidays allow my whole family and me to have a quick vacation just to escape the cold weather in Tamsui.
Oftentimes, if we travel in April, our first choice is Kaohsiung. Well, my first choice is Kaohsiung for I am sure it’s going to be warm. When I was an International Sales Representative of a certain remittance company, I used to travel to Kaohsiung in winter and I found out that even if it’s freezing in Taipei, Kaohsiung always gives you that warmer temperature during the day.
So, I hope this 3-day and 2-night itinerary in Kaohsiung will help you decide on your future travel to Taiwan. Kaohsiung is located in the southern part of Taiwan and there are international flights available in the city as well.
Day 1 Tamsui to Kaohsiung
Being aware of the long drive from Tamsui New Taipei City to Kaohsiung City, I didn’t arrange any other locations. Well, I know we will be stopping by to some service stops going to the south so it’s also a way to relax and stretch some legs before heading down to our final destination.

Wearing this breathable but warm set from Adidas. I believe it’s the perfect outfit for the drive because I can easily change clothes without ruining my make up in case the temperature gets higher than expected. It’s a zipped top so it’s pretty convenient for me.
Fortunately, from Hokou Service Stop, Xi Lou Service Stop and Rende Service Stop, my outfit blended well with the temperature. It wasn’t hot and not even cold. Just warm enough. Perfect for the holiday.
We tried to stop at Tai An Service stop around Taichung but we backed out because there were too many tourists there and we didn’t find a parking space.

Kaohsiung – San Hua Hotel
We started the drive from 11am and we finally arrived in our hotel at around 8pm. That’s almost ten hours drive from northern part to the southern part of Taiwan.

We chose San Hua Hotel because of it’s location and it is also an affordable 3-star Hotel. It’s near the MRT, there is Watsons next to it, and so many restaurants too.
It also has free breakfast and free parking space.
If you don’t care much about extra offers from the hotel, San Hua Hotel is fine for you.
BTW, they don’t provide the hygiene kit, so you must bring your own. And if you happen to forget, 711 and Watsons are just a few steps away from the hotel.

Fun Day 1 in Kaohsiung at 藍色狂想 Blue Fantasy
Our first activity for our first day in Kaohsiung is at Blue Fantasy Bar. I was able to find this when I tried to google the keyword “famous bars in Kaohsiung”. A few days before going to this place, I did some inquiry on their Facebook page, asked if it is kid-friendly and some other stuffs. The page was active enough to respond promptly to my messages.

I kinda miss Beer Talk at Po Er but we’ve been there a few times so I thought maybe it’s just right to find a new bar. I think next time, I will bring my whole family back to Beer Talk where we are familiar and much more suitable for the kids.

This is 艾維 (Ai Wei) one of the singers we were able to watch on the night of April 3, 2025. There were three singers for the whole night that we were there and so far, for me, it’s good that they have Ai Wei that night. She’s the only good thing that we ever had at Blue Fantasy.
If you don’t care about the food, don’t care about how long the order comes, don’t mind the place, don’t care about rude service, you don’t have children, willing to spend at least 600NT because it’s their minimum per head , loves to drink alcohol, don’t care about being asked to leave, then try this bar otherwise I won’t recommend it to anyone even if it’s a place where Taiwanese singers perform in some of their monthly schedules.
Although I felt guilty for my first choice of activity in Kaohsiung, I’m glad they were able to enjoy Ai Wei’s music. It’s still fun despite the hassles because we were together.

SKM Park Outlets – Suzuka Circuit Park
I and my family are really looking forward to our second day in Kaohsiung because our first schedule wasn’t that perfect at all. Since it’s children’s day, we decided to bring the kids to their favorite world, the amusement park but with a twist because it’s inside the mall, so there are shops to go to and restaurants to dine in to.

Our main goal was to try this Suzuka Circuit Park’s Go Karts. When we went to the reception to buy some tickets, we were told that we have to wait from 2-3 hours and very young children can’t drive alone. They must be with a parent.
My son wanted to drive so we were glad SKM Park has an alternative for Go cars.

This was my son’s first fast car experience. He was able to drive mini go karts in other amusement parks and some bump cars but this is his first try with a mini race car. Children and adults can ride this too but we waited more than an hour to be able to get our turn. But it’s still worth the long queue.

If you decide to visit Suzuka Circuit Park, it would be best to visit their website or Facebook Page for promotions and other information. As for me, I didn’t do any inquiry so I didn’t know much about the Go Karts competition.

While the boys are enjoying the cars at Suzuka Circuit Park, my girl found her spot too. It’s really great that SKM Park Outlets offers so many options for Family Activities so you and your kids will really enjoy the place.

This was in Tom’s World just beside the Suzuka Circuit Park.
SKM Park Outlets has so many options for FAMILY FUN aside from Suzuka Circuit Park. They have the Ambassador Theaters, Austin Land Indoor Playground, Fitness Factory, Let’s Roll Bowling and Kitchen Bar, Lonsdale, Play Time Kids Club, Play Time Photo Studio, Snowin Indoor Snow Sports, Taroko Sports, Tom’s World, Toys R Us, Viveland VR, and Yukids Island.

Shoyoen since 1940 or Xiaoyao Villa
This place was originally not part of the itinerary. I saw a picture of the villa at our hotel’s reception area. It said it’s a new landmark for Kaohsiung and so I was so curious and wanted to see the place.

This is Shoyoen meaning a Happy Excursion Garden and it was built in 1939. It used to be a villa of Otani Kozui in Taiwan, who was the 22nd abbot of Nishi Hongan-ji Temple of Jogo Shinshu, the True Pure Land Sect of Buddhism.

Among all the songs and poems written by Otani Kozui, several have quoted sayings of Chuang Tzu and concepts Chuang Tzu mentioned in his book “A Happy Excursion”. Otani named the villa “Shoyoen” or Happy Excursion Garden as he hoped to live here, away from all the boundaries and constraints in the world.

As a historic building in Kaohsiung, it’s quite surprising that the villa still looks great knowing the fact that it was there since 1940. It stood strong amidst the natural calamities in Kaohsiung like the earthquakes, storms and floods. It’s a great place for a quick visit. You will see brochures in different languages describing everything you see inside the villa.

They also have a mini snack bar where you can order traditional desserts and flavored ice creams.

The Ministry of National Defense proclaimed the “Statute Governing Reconstruction of Old Military Dependents’ Villages” in 1996 and began to renovate old military dependets’ villages. Shoyoen located in the military dependents’ village, urgently needed protection and local residents and activists called on the government to preserve the villa.
Kaohsiung City government held cultural heritage review committee meeting and in 2010, Shoyoen was listed as historic building in Kaohsiung.

Day 3 Tomb Sweeping Day April 5, 2025
This was it! The day we will be going to Senya Village. This is one of the most reviewed tourist spots in Kaohsiung and it gained 4.9 Stars from more than 79 thousand google map local guides. Isn’t it fantastic?
What we look forward to is the first Kimono experience for the whole family. I had worn a Kimono once in Pintung and my experience was amazing. The staffs at VIP Zone Pintung were so nice and I would definitely recommend their services for your first Kimono experience.

I strongly suggest for you guys to give one whole day to explore Senya Village. It really gives you that Japan vibe in Taiwan and they have so many stores to choose from. Wearing a Kimono means having that perfect background and the village itself gives you everything that you need.

How much does it cost to rent a Kimono at Senya Village?
As for my experience, it’s FREE. You will enjoy your Kimono for ONE HOUR free if you add them on Line App.
You can also use your discount coupon given to you upon purchasing the entrance ticket.
OBI or waistbands vary in prices. The staff will only assist you with the OBI but the rest is all up to you. Accessories are available. You are free to choose whatever you like.
So there were four of us, we had two special OBI and some accessories. We only paid 50NT cash and 400NT worth of discount coupon.

Before you go to Senya Village, it’s best for you to contact a good photographer for perfect shots or prepare a selfie stick for better group photos. To be honest, my daughter is not so fond of taking pictures but for the very first time at Senya Village, while we were wearing the Kimono, she was inspired and encouraged to take more snaps of her.
The photos in the slideshow are a combination of raw shots and brightness adjusted one. We use iPhone 15Pro for all these shots. Imagine if you have a good camera? Senya Village indeed deserves 4.9 stars! It’s truly fun for the whole family.

Nothing beats a delicious meal to end a wonderful trip in Kaohsiung. As someone who loves to eat mutton, going to Gangshan Kaohsiung, the mutton capital in Taiwan, is a must.

I enjoyed the food and the place was big enough for all the customers. The food service was great, affordable menu, and I find the restaurant neat and tidy.

Sanmin Park
Before we went to Senya Village, we wanted to have our brunch at Dan Dan Burger 丹丹漢堡 because it’s only available in Kaohsiung. It’s one of the most famous breakfast store in Kaohsiung. On our way to the nearest Dan Dan Burger, we parked at Sanmin Park and instantly I love the vibe of the place.

Fun 3 Days and 2 Nights in Kaohsiung
Sanmin Park in Kaohsiung is great for the whole family. It’s spacious, there’s a Library and an activity center. What I love the most in the park are the trees. There were lots and lots of them, old and new ones. It’s also the first time ever I saw squirrels up close.
I know there are squirrels in some parks I’ve been in Taipei and Taoyuan, but the squirrels there are so wild and untamed. They run right after seeing a human being. But in Sanmin Park Kaohsiung, the squirrels didn’t really care about us or the people in the park. They were just enjoying their food. Playing on the ground feeling safe and sound.
Some snaps in Sanmin Park Kaohsiung:
Dandan Burger 丹丹漢堡 瀋陽店
It’s like a Taiwanese breakfast store and a fastfood all in one. They have hamburgers, fries, chicken nuggets, and most of all rice porridge. Taiwanese people having a trip in Kaohsiung will never fail to get a meal whether dine in or take out, here at Dan Dan Burger.

There are so many branches of Dan Dan Burger in Kaohsiung. For us, we were so lucky to have a table for four at this Dan Dan Burger near Sanmin Park. The kids enjoyed the chicken nuggets so much. They said it’s the most delicious nuggets they’ve tried so far.
I think they do not accept reservations. You just have to come and find a table, then fall in line to order. They will have your number flashed on the screen for you to pick up your food.
