20 Fun Taiwan Attractions to Visit in Taiwan
Coca-Cola was born in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. on May 8, 1886. Sale of Coca-Cola for the first year averaged only nine drinks per day but today, over 1.9 billion servings of Coca-Cola products are served daily. Coca-Cola has evolved from one single product “Coca-Cola” to more than 500 beverage brands and expanded from one city in one country to more than 200 countries around the world. Coca-Cola remains till this day a living legend in the beverage industry.
Coke Pavilion comprises 9 exhibition areas that display more than 1,000 precious items, including a wide variety of limited editions of Coke bottles and other special collections. Following the timeline displayed on the wall, visitors are able to witness the evolution of Coke bottles from straight-sided Hutchinson bottles to contour bottles that distinguish the brand from other competitors. The timeline also tells the history that on July 12, 1985, astronauts tested the “Coca-Cola Space Can” aboard the space shuttle Challenger, making Coke the first soft drink to be consumed in outer space.
Because Coca-Cola has been the longest continuous sponsor of the Olympic Games and important sports competitions, Coke Pavilion especially displays three carefully preserved Olympics torches, which are something not to be missed by sports fans. In the showcase, visitors can find Coca-Cola contour bottles made from blue ceramics, graphite, wood and plant materials, all of which will definitely amaze Coca-Cola collectors. For those who love fashion, their favorite would be the Coca-Cola light “Tribute to Fashion” limited edition contour bottles designed by eight Italian fashion designers for a charitable purpose.
If you want to know how Coca-Cola builds its brand identity and spreads throughout the world, welcome to Coke Pavilion, Taoyuan, and have a Coke-themed tour! At Coke Pavilion, the history of Coca-Cola, the manufacturing process of Coca-Cola products and wonderful Coca-Cola stories over the past 100 years will all unfold in front of your eyes!

The former official residence of Chiang Kai-shek and Madam Chiang maintains a quiet and attractive garden. The garden is full of plums, chrysanthemums and roses favored by the Chiang couple. Flowers bloom according to season and make for a stunning view throughout much of the year.
Chiang Kai-shek Shilin Residence Park
he CKS Shilin Residence Park is located in Shilin District, to the southeast of where Section 5, Zhongshan N. Road and Fulin Road meet. Surrounded by the Fushan hills, this 9.28-hectare park was named after the late R.O.C. President Chiang Kai-shek, who lived on its premises in 1950.
It has well-preserved, enchanting scenic resources both in the outer and inner gardens, the principal room, the greenhouse for potted orchids, the rose garden, Victory Chapel, the New Orchid Pavilion and the Ciyun Pavilion, due to construction projects or renovations having been prohibited in the neighborhood for national security reasons. The Chinese-style inner garden is landscaped with a stream running under an artificial bridge, rock gardens, peculiarly shaped rocks, and a red-painted Chinese summerhouse, whereas the European-style outer garden with carpet bed of exuberant flowers, serves as a theme venue for the annual chrysanthemum exhibitions.

The rose garden features 200 species and 4,000-odd plants with roses of varied hues during the peak blooming period from November through April, and was Madame Chiang’s favorite location for leisurely strolls. While the Chiang family was baptized in a Christian ceremony and held worship services in the Victory Chapel, the New Orchid Pavilion (aka Longevity Pavilion) is a Chinese-style quadrangular structure built in 1950 to host Mr. Chiang’s birthday celebrations; it also serves as a venue for various orchid shows.
On Mt. Fushan is the Ciyun Pavilion, a two-story square summerhouse built in memory of Mr. Chiang’s mother. After being open to the public in 1996, the CKS Shilin Residence Park has undergone many continued renovation projects to become a scenic, recreational spot in downtown Taipei with enhanced quality and quantity of services, besides brilliant zoning and construction plans.

6. Baishawan or White Sand Beach New Taipei City
20 Fun Taiwan Attractions to Visit in Taiwan
Baisha Bay (Baishawan)—which translates as “White Sand Bay”—is one of the better known beaches along the coast. The bay is located between Linshanbi to the south and Fugui Cape to the north. These rocky promontories are the result of volcanic activity from the Datun Range that sent lava flowing directly into the sea some 800,000 years ago. The different minerals present in the rock have created a mottled rock surface. The interesting features of the rocky waterfronts are the primitive fish traps made from heaped landsite and broken coral, where fish are stranded by the retreating tide. These fish traps can be seen along the coast between Baisha Bay (Baishawan) and Fugui Cape.
Baisha Bay and Heping Island Park have been received the “Svayam Accessibility Awards 2018” under the Category “Most Accessible Tourist Attraction Site” for the initiatives towards “North Coast Accessibility Route” and “Building a Barrier-Free and Accessible Environment at the Keelung Heping Island Park” on Nov. 2018.

The awards are conferred on the organizations and individuals who have shown consistent commitment towards providing accessible infrastructure for all. These awards play a pivotal role in providing the right impetus to the development of inclusive infrastructure and related policies and practices ensuring that accessibility initiatives are sustainable and meaningful. Svayam Accessibility Awards are an effort to promote and recognize the concept of Accessibility and Universal Design in all spheres of our lives to make way for livable communities – in both rural and urban landscape.

7. Taipei Zoo

20 Fun Taiwan Attractions to Visit in Taiwan The History of the Taipei Zoo
The history of the Taipei Zoo can be traced back over 90 years. In 1914, when Taiwan was still under Japanese sovereignty, a Japanese man surnamed Oe established a private zoological garden in Yuan-shan in the northern suburbs of Taipei City. The Japanese Government in Taiwan purchased the property the following year and transformed it into a public park. Following World War II in 1946, the Taipei Zoo was formally taken over by the Taipei City Government. In 1970, the amusement park adjacent to the zoo was consolidated into a 5.8-hectare park, providing entertainment and education for several generations of children and adults.
With the increase of social awareness concerning natural conservation and environmental education, the Taipei Zoo, well-equipped with expertise regarding animal care and the knowledge of natural history, has committed itself to serving as a leader in environmental education and wildlife conservation. The original site of the zoo was constrained by its limited area, and a plan to build a modern zoo for Taipei was undertaken in 1973.
20 Fun Taiwan Attractions to Visit in Taiwan
After thirteen years of planning and construction, the former zoo was officially closed on August 15, 1986, which marked the end of the Yuan-shan era. The new zoo, located in the Muzha district in the southern part of Taipei, held its grand opening on New Year’s Day the following year.
The four main functions of the Taipei Zoo are conservation, education, research and recreation. More than four million visitors attend the Zoo on an annual basis; it has also hosted several international conferences on conservation-related topics. In addition, Taipei Zoo has planned and executed several city-wide educational activities pertaining to wildlife conservation themes over the years.

Whereas Roman Catholic missionaries came to Taiwan somewhat earlier, Protestant mission work that continues to this day began the year 1865 in Tainan with the arrival of Dr. James L. Maxwell sent by the Presbyterian Church of England (now the United Reformed Church [URC]). Dr. Maxwell and colleagues were soon followed by Rev. Dr. George L. Mackay from the Canadian Presbyterian Mission (the Presbyterian Church in Canada [PCC]) who began mission work in Tamsui in 1872.
From the efforts of the British missionaries in the south and the Canadian missionaries in the north, a Taiwanese Presbyterian Church began to take shape. 1865 is considered the founding year of the PCT.
Little modern development had been initiated by the government in Taiwan, until the Japanese takeover in 1895, however, many modern institutions were already introduced by the church. For example, the first school, including the first school for girls, the blind and deaf, the first western hospital, the care for leprosy patients, and the first printing press in Taiwan were all established by the Presbyterian Church.
